We are pleased to release this summer's newsletter. It includes updates from the President of the NWCAA, the outgoing Commandant, and the Executive Director. You'll also find articles, updates, and photos from the last year. You can find it attached to this article.

Anne Pham (National War College 2008 Graduate, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) recounts her journey from Vietnam refugee to State Department official and her quest to find the FSOs, USAID, and military personnel who helped save her life in this featured article of the FSJ.

Anne Pham was also credited in Rory Kennedy's new documentary, "Last Days in Vietnam." The documentary covers the interagency evacuation that saved many lives, including hers. The documentary utilized some of the research Pham subsequently conducted while on the Faculty at the National Defense University ICAF/Eisenhower School. None Will Surpass

COL Harry Rothmann, former member of the NWC faculty has just published a book on his West Point Class' service from the 1960s to the 1990s. The title is None Will Surpass.

Lee E. Surut, a retired Army major general who served as a division artillery commander during the Vietnam War and later as commandant of the National War College, died July 20 at a hospital in Seattle. He was 89.

President Obama said Thursday that he is returning to service a career diplomat deeply experienced in eastern Europe to be the next U.S. ambassador to Russia.

The Future of American Air Power

Faculty member Mark. A Bucknam was published in September 2013's Defense Dossier. His article is shared below.

Background on 4th Edition of Rules & Tools for Leaders: From Developing Your Own Skills to Running Organizations of Any Size, Practical Advice for Leaders at All Levels.

This book was published on 6 August, 2013. Earlier editions were entitled Taking Charge and, later, Rules and Tools for Leaders: A Down-to-Earth Guide to Effective Managing. Translated into five languages, the earlier editions of this book have been quite successful (more than 300,000 in print).

The NWC Alumni Association welcomes the incoming NWC Commandant, BG Guy "Tom" Cosentino. General Cosentino will join the College in mid-July. Ambassador Jim Foley, who has been Commandant since December, 2012 will return to his position as Deputy Commandant. We will have a strong team to lead The College forward in the future challenging years.

Ambassador Chris Stevens Memorial

On Friday, May 3, 2013, the National War College with the Classes of 2010 and 2013 held a memorial service and tree planting to honor 2010 graduate AMB Chris Stevens, who was killed in a terrorist attack on the US diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012. AMB Steven's family attended the service and the tree planting.

We are pleased to share Fox and Friends' interview of MajGen John Borling, Class of 1980. The video is available here. As a reminder, MajGen Borling will be speaking in Arnold on April 16th. That event can be registered for here.

On March 13th, Lt Gen Brent Scowcroft, Class of 1970, was inducted into the NDU National Hall of Fame. An interview from the event is available here.
